Information for Community GroupsThank you for accessing our website. One of Pro Bono Law of BC’s strategic objectives is to work closely with community groups and non-profit organizations of limited means to identify and meet their legal needs and the legal needs of the public whom they serve. Therefore, if you are a member of a non-profit organization that is registered as a society in British Columbia, Pro Bono Law of BC can help you to find a lawyer or law firm to provide your organization with free legal assistance or education. We also offer resources on how to access free legal services and information. To register as a community group, click here. By registering with us, you are able to post requests for pro bono legal assistance as offered by our volunteer lawyers and non-lawyer legal professionals. To post a particular request (once you are registered), download the Request Form, or fill it out online. The Solicitors’ Program is particularly helpful to non-profit organizations, as our volunteer lawyers offer legal advice and services in many areas of law, such as incorporation and by-laws, charitable status issues, employment and labour matters, and tenant and landlord issues. Our volunteer lawyers may also conduct seminars on such topics as board of directors’ liability, privacy policies and charitable incorporation. Please indicate if you are interested in a particular Solicitors’ Program service by noting such on the Request Form (print | web ). We also offer the Community Partnership Manual in PDF format. The Manual outlines the steps for creating and sustaining a pro bono partnership between a community group and a law firm, modeled on the successful partnership between the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, BC Division and Davis & Company. |
