Many low-income British Columbians are confronted with critical family law issues and yet do not qualify for legal aid or Legal Services Society programs. Some are parents who are solely responsible for the care of their children. Some are victims of domestic violence. Some are recent immigrants. They all require help to address legal problems that hit close to home. Through the Family Law Program, roster lawyers provide assistance and representation to clients in such matters as drafting and arguing applications, conducting trials, mediating disputes, drafting separation agreements, and securing consent orders. Although the range of potential assistance is unlimited, the Family Law Program is specifically designed to enable pro bono assistance in the form of discrete or “unbundled” tasks. Annie Kaderly, of Aaron Gordon Daykin Nordlinger, is the Program Coordinator for the Family Law Program. She screens each client, assesses each request for pro bono assistance, connects clients with lawyers, and serves as the primary program contact for roster lawyers. PROGRAM DOCUMENTS |
